Another three-peat…Park Dong-won admitted to interference at the plate, this time manager Yoon Kyung-yup ejected

Another sloppy call sends the manager off the field.

LG Twins and Kiwoom Heroes played in Jamsil on the 3rd. In the bottom of the fifth inning, with Kiwoom leading 4-1, a three-peat call stopped the game.

Here’s what happened. With nobody out, LG batter Park Dong-won hit a grounder to left-center field on a surprise bunt attempt, and Kiwoom third baseman Kim Tae-jin caught the ball and threw it out. Song and the runner at first base faced off. The ball appeared to go in and out of the glove of Kiwoom first baseman Lee Won-seok. Lee Won-seok grabbed his left arm and complained of pain after the incident, and was eventually replaced.

Kim requested a video review due to the three-foot rule. Claimed obstruction of a base. The Korean Baseball Organization (KBO) refined the rule at the start of the second half. The decision was made to declare that running inside the three-foot line is an obstruction of the defense (throwing or catching) if it clearly causes a fielder’s interference.

Park Dong-won is running the bases with his right foot. His body naturally leans toward the inside of the line. The argument was already voiced on the field. I think it applies to this situation. However, Lee Won-seok’s left arm collided with Park Dong-won’s left shoulder in the process of running without any intention.

The umpires ruled it was defensive interference through video review. The umpires ruled that the ball was not caught because the fielder collided with the runner. Park Dong-won was out, and Moon Bo-kyung, who had advanced to third base, returned to first base. 안전놀이터

Coach Yeom Kyung-yup came out to the field. A long appeal followed. The umpire was called out, and Yeom shook his head and walked off the field.

The three-foot rule has been controversial all season. The criteria for ‘interference’ is not clear, and different referees seem to interpret it differently. LG, who were looking to extend their winning streak to seven games, were left without their captain for the second half of the match.
