Lee Jae-sung (Mainz), now in his sixth year in Germany, started the opening match of the German Bundesliga but was unable to prevent his team from losing.
Mainz lost 1-0 to Union Berlin in the first round of the 2023-24 German Bundesliga at the Stadion Alte Fursterrei in Berlin, Germany, on Tuesday (Sept. 20).

Mainz’s next opponent is Eintracht Frankfurt. Mainz and Eintracht Frankfurt will meet in the second round at Mainz’s home stadium on April 27 at 10:30 pm. Eintracht Frankfurt is currently playing the first leg against Darmstadt on Nov. 21.
