A late call-up to the national team, but in top form. Outfielder Yoon Dong-hee swings for the fences against ‘powerhouse’ Chinese Taipei.

The South Korean baseball team, led by head coach Ryu Jung-il, is in action against Chinese Taipei in the second game of the Baseball Group B at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games at the Shaoxing Baseball & Softball Sports Center-Baseball in Hangzhou, China on Tuesday.

South Korea came out with the following batting order: Kim Hye-sung (second base), Choi Ji-hoon (center field), Noh Si-hwan (third base), Kang Baek-ho (designated hitter), Moon Bo-kyung (first base), Yoon Dong-hee (right field), Park Sung-sung (shortstop), Kim Hyung-joon (catcher), and Kim Sung-yoon (left field). There were no changes to the lineup from the previous day’s game against Hong Kong.

Korea started the game with a run in the top of the first inning. Starter Moon Dong-ju gave up a leadoff double to Cheong Chung-seo and then retired Lin Tzu-wei and Lin Li on a groundout and a strikeout, respectively, but gave up a triple to right-center field to Lin Hanko to give Taiwan a 1-0 lead.

Yun Dong-hui, who hit a double off the right-field wall in her first at-bat in the second inning, followed with a single up the middle in the top of the fourth for her second multi-hit game in as many at-bats. Yoon joined Ryu in a flurry of activity after being named Lee’s replacement on March 22, just one day before the national team was called up, but she has done her part as well as anyone in the early stages of the tournament 메이저사이트.

Despite Yoon’s performance, South Korea failed to score in the top of the second inning and again in the top of the fourth. With one out, Park Sung-ki struck out and then Kim Hyung-jun hit a grounder to the second baseman that failed to get past Taiwanese starter Lin Yu-min.

After giving up the lead in the top of the first, Korean starter Moon Dong-joo seemed to settle down in the bottom of the second and third innings, but in the top of the fourth, a wild pitch allowed runners to score from second and third. The runner was thrown out at home, but the gap between the two teams widened to two runs.

Korea is currently down 0-2 to Taiwan in the fifth inning, and it remains to be seen if they can turn things around after the middle innings.
