The reason for Jeonbuk head coach Dan Petrescu’s (56) absence from the media day has been revealed.

After fending off Daegu’s fierce attack, Jeonbuk took the lead in the 30th minute with a goal from Han Gyo-won. Edgar equalized four minutes later, but Gustavo’s penalty kick goal in the second half gave Jeonbuk a 2-1 victory and three valuable points.

Prior to the game, Jeonbuk officials revealed the reason for Petrescu’s absence from the media day. Petrescu missed the media day for the Hana One Q K League 1 2023 Final Round held at the Nine Tree Premier Locus Hotel in Yongsan-gu, Seoul on April 18 due to personal reasons, and head coach Valeriu Bordeanu took his place.

A club official said, “We received a letter from the Korean Football Association submitting excuse materials for the last media day. At that time, the head coach had to receive treatment for a corneal injury.”

“Therefore, we attached a medical certificate and submitted it to the federation. The federation replied, ‘We understand the situation. His symptoms worsened on Monday (Nov. 16) and he received treatment on Nov. 18, the day of the media day.”

Meanwhile, Jeonbuk, who earned three valuable points against Daegu, remained in fourth place, five points behind third-place Gwangju. Jeonbuk will continue to compete fiercely until the end of the season.

Speaking after the match, Coach Petrescu said, “The team spirit was revitalized against Seoul. We are getting closer to the kind of soccer we want to play, the kind I want to play. We had good chances today, but we need to work on our defense. We need to work harder defensively.”
