Bob Melvin, the manager of the San Diego Padres in Major League Baseball (MLB), is in the running to become the new manager of the San Francisco Giants.
The Athletic, an American sports publication, reported on Wednesday (June 23) that “Melvin is San Francisco’s leading candidate to replace former manager Gabe Kapler. San Francisco has received permission from San Diego to interview Melvin.”
Melvin signed a three-year contract with San Diego in October 2021. He led the Padres to the postseason last year, reaching the Championship Series, but the team failed to make it to fall ball this year despite having some of the best players in the league. 온라인카지노
Melvin is under contract with San Diego through the 2024 season, but San Francisco’s aggressive pursuit of him, even agreeing to interview him, has increased the likelihood of his departure.
San Francisco, which fired Kapler last month, has been searching for a new head coach.
The team recently conducted internal interviews with bench coach Kai Correa, third base coach Mark Holmberg, assistant coach Alyssa Narkin and special assistant Ron Waters.
In addition to Melvin, the organization has been keeping an eye on Seattle Mariners manager Steven Vogt and Boston Red Sox manager Jason Varitek. They have already interviewed Vogt.
San Francisco also offered Texas Rangers special assistant to the general manager Nick Hundley a managerial interview, but he declined.
