‘Don’t worry about the 9th inning’ Diaz recovers to perfection → bullpen pitching ‘soon to be in action’

Edwin Diaz (30), who was out for the season due to a major injury during the 2023 World Baseball Classic (WBC), took a strong step toward his return.

The New York Daily News, a local media outlet in New York, reported on Diaz’s rehabilitation on the 13th (Korea time), who played across the last season due to a knee injury.

According to the report, Diaz threw a bullpen session at the New York Mets’ spring training on the day. This is the first step in full-fledged rehabilitation.

He has yet to practice infield grounder defense and first base cover. As his knee has fully recovered, however, he will likely be able to practice defense and pitch in real life soon.

Earlier in March last year, Diaz took the mound in the final fourth game of Group D in the first round of the 2023 WBC finals against the Dominican Republic and defended Puerto Rico’s victory with a perfect pitch.

The problem is that Diaz suffered a major injury such as a ruptured right knee cap during the ceremony after the victory. Diaz complained of very great pain.

Afterwards, Diaz underwent surgery and was out for the season. The surgery was successful. He said he had no problem returning to the 2024 season. 꽁머니

Healthy Diaz is the best closer in the major leagues. Diaz pitched 62 innings in 61 games last year, 3-1 with 32 saves and a 1.31 ERA.

As a result, Diaz is expected to firmly keep the back door of the New York Mets in the 2024 season. The ninth inning is not a big concern for the New York Mets, where Diaz is.
