“Lee Kang-in and Best Friend” Um Won-sang said, “I use the room next door, so I come here often… I’ll learn a lot from Heungmin and Heechan in the national team.”

Um Won-sang (25, Ulsan HD) and Lee Kang-in (23, Paris Saint-Germain), who led the 2019 U-20 World Cup in Poland, met at the A team and showed off their “best friendship.”

The South Korean national soccer team, led by interim coach Kim Do-hoon, held its first on-site training session for about an hour ahead of the fifth Group C match of the second Asian qualifying round for the 2026 FIFA North-Central America World Cup at Vishan Stadium in Bishan, Singapore, on the afternoon of the 3rd (Korea Standard Time).
The match between South Korea and Singapore will kick off at 9 p.m. on the 6th at The 밤알바 National Stadium in Singapore.

Um Won-sang, who came to the A team for the first time in a long time, met with Lee Kang-in. The two players, who became roommates during the U-20 World Cup in Poland, won a gold medal together at the Hangzhou Asian Games in October last year.

Um Won-sang and Lee Kang-in lay side by side at the A national team training ground, stretched, and ran next to each other to talk as they warmed up around the ground.

When asked what he talked about with Lee Kang-in, whom he had met for the first time in a long time, Um Won-sang said in an interview before the training, “We exchanged jokes. Kangin is using the next room and he comes here often.”

Um Won-sang, who has no record of playing in A matches since the East Asian Football Federation (EAFF) E-1 Championship in July 2022, joined the A team for the first time in a long time.

Um Won-sang was listed on the A-match call-up list in March this year, but he hurt his ankle while playing his team’s game and failed to join the final team.

“I was not able to join the national team due to injury during the last call-up, but I am grateful to be able to come back to the national team like this. I will have to do my best (to) ensure that I can come to the national team for as long as I have the opportunity,” Um said.

Um had one assist in a showdown with Jeonbuk in the K League 1 right before joining the national team, contributing to his team’s 1-0 victory. This is why people are paying attention to his toes.

“It would be great if you have expectations for me,” said Um. “It is important that I do well so that I can respond. I don’t expect that I can play many games (due to outstanding players in the national team). I came here with the thought of learning from Heung-min, Hee-chan and many others. Rather than wanting to continue playing games, if I try hard, wouldn’t the coach give me a good impression? (If I get a chance) I want to show what I can do well without getting injured this time.”
