Kim Jisoo Promoted to Brentford First Team…Reservation for Korea’s first EPL center back

June 8, 2024 | by bookmeforphotographers.com

Center back Kim Ji-soo, born in 2004, joined the first-team squad a year after joining Brentford in the English Premier League (EPL).

The Brentford club said on its website on the 7th (local time) that “defender Kim Ji-soo and goalkeeper Ben Winterbottom have been promoted to the first team. The two young players will join the squad led by Thomas Frank from the opening of the 2024-2025 season.”

Kim Ji-soo, who left Seongnam FC to join Brentford FC in June last year, only played for Team B, which is like a second-tier club. He played in 29 matches and scored one goal.

Although he did not play a game in the first team, he is expected to experience the EPL stage in earnest from the new season.
Brentford introduced that Kim Ji-soo played an active role in Korea’s U-20 national team, contributing to the semifinals of the U-20 World Cup, and proudly participated in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup as a member of the A national team.

“Kim Ji-soo is an example of Brentford’s project,” said Neil McFarlane, the B team coach who coached Kim Ji-soo for a season. “Since I took the helm here, I’ve seen many players promote to the first team, and Kim Ji-soo is one of them.”

“I hope you continue to show your abilities and get to the top,” he said.

If Kim Ji-soo plays in a league game in a Brentford uniform in the upcoming season, he will be recorded as the first Korean center back to visit the EPL stage.

Senior defenders such as Yoon Seok-young and Lee Young-pyo played in the EPL, but their main position was fullbacks, not professional central defenders like Kim Ji-soo.

Kim Ji-soo, who was born in December 2004 and is still a teenager, has been considered a “defensive prospect” in Korean soccer. 업소알바

He was nicknamed “the second Kim Min-jae” due to his 192cm tall, 84kg strong physique and high soccer intelligence.

Brentford finished the 2023-2024 season in 16th place (10 wins, 9 draws, 19 losses, 39 points).
